Texathon 10K – 2017
The world’s first and only run organised by the textile community. Designed to celebrate the industry that clothes the world and makes life colourful and joyous with ever evolving and dynamic fashion. Merging the environments of TEXtiles and marATHON, an event hosted and promoted by Sasmira Alumni Foundation, ex-students of the leading textile technology institute SASMIRA, Mumbai. Designed by the textile community but embracing all runners, professionals and those just looking for a fun outing, it seeks to bring alive the rich heritage of Textile industry origins in Mumbai and its eventful journey to the modern present date status.
Pride, to restate and celebrate, to bring to fore to the community itself and the public that textiles is the largest industrial employer of 40 million direct and 60 million indirect employees. To raise awareness of its rightful place as the clothier to the nation and world. Provider of glamour via the draping of humankind in wondrous hues and patterns that make a statement. Making daily life colourful yet being functional. In the daily grind these and many achievements get taken for granted. Texathon proposes to make people pause, reflect and absorb the awesome span this industry and the community encompasses.
The spirit of the run is bonding, and to bring together in one and only of its kind unique festival where right from the cotton grower to the end consumer is linked and connected through a common thread. It may be about the textile community but the definition includes all those who wear clothes. Those who make the clothes to those who wear, those who design and those who sew, those who flaunt and those who admire.
Aiming to also highlight Mumbai’s contribution and indeed to a great extent the creation of Mumbai itself owed to the centuries-old textile mills that laid the foundation of today’s commercial capital. The run hopes to recreate the history of how closely interlinked and woven the rise of textile industry and growth of the city has been.
Not the least, it seeks to promote awareness of good health among this era of stress and overwork and industrial hazards, a much needed but neglected issue among most and in industrial workers especially. From lip service to self-regulation and healthy habits to actual action. Wishing to bring about a change in thought and motivate physical fitness.
