We have all seen coverage of the famous marathon events and you may even have friends or family that have completed a marathon, but what it is to train a Marathon runner like?

With the 10th anniversary of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon,  in Jan, 2013 and couple of other marathons in India fast approaching, thousands of runners are  gearing up for the event. With the big day some weeks away, now is the time for the runners to start training in earnest.

This timely workshop conducted by Exercise Science Academy, (only official centre for American College of Sports Medicine) together with YouTooCanRun will help you with the scientific and practical aspects needed

–          To train your clients to run the marathon successfully, or

–          To train yourself to run it in a personal best time.


–          Fitness professionals who will be training clients to participate in the half and full marathon.

–          Regular runners who wish to train better and improve their performance.



At the end of the workshop you will be able to:

–          Evaluate a runner and decide on their fitness to participate in distance running.

–          Understand the physiological and muscular changes required for distance running.

–          Device a personalized plan for your client depending on their health and fitness status

–          Monitor and motivate the client to achieve the goal

–          Tailor a nutrition regimen appropriate for the client

–          Advice the client on appropriate hydration techniques during the race

–          Advice on appropriate clothing and footwear

–          Advice on Training tools such as HRM


Fees: 4,000 + Taxes

Daniel Vaz is one of the premier running coaches in Mumbai, having trained hundreds of Mumbaikars to successfully complete the half and full marathon.  Daniel is the coach for the Nike Run Club, and the Colgate-Palmolive Runners Club. He also contributes regular articles on ‘Distance Learning’ for Runners For Life.


Daniel has been certified by ACE as a Certified Group Fitness Instructor, and has several workshops, including Framework-7 steps to healthy muscles, bones and joints, Nutrition strategies for fitness, Core Training Specialist from ACE.


As a runner, he has completed 27 Full Marathons, 1 Ultra-marathon of 50K and International Marathons at Berlin, Germany; Lausanne, Switzerland; Istanbul, Turkey; Wurzburg, Germany.




Venkatraman is Mumbai based Chartered Accountant who has successfully run start  ups having team size of 3000 spread over 10 locations with some of the most leading corporate names in India as its clients. He currently sits on the Board of three companies with a strength exceeding 2500 team members.


He is seasoned runner & has been running the SCMM Half Marathons over many years.  With a view to maintain physical fitness throughout the year, in the last two years he has been running the Half Marathon distance of 21 kms every single calendar month. He has been the pacer for the 3 hour bus for the last two SCMM Half Marathons


He loves to read about running. He has built a library of running books over the years which has enabled him to assimilate vast amount of knowledge on running which he delights in contributing on various running forums .Also regularly logs all his runs using his Garmin Heart Rate Monitor and these can be viewed at


He has been training teams for the last several years in his various offices as well as Cardiac patients. Together with Asian Heart Institute he has launched India’s first and World’s largest Sweat Rate study with a  view to resolve the hydration conundrum for Indian runners. His latest initiative YouTooCanRun is aimed to promote Running as a means to Good Health




Dr. Aashish is the Head of dept of Preventive Cardiology and Rehabilitation at the Asian Heart Institute, and the Medical Director of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon.


He is certified as ACSM Clinical Exercise Specialist (in 1998).He is involved with the ACSM since 1996 & organized the first ever ACSM workshop and certification in India, in the year 2003 (in Mumbai). He has written chapters in ACSM publications as well as reviewed several ACSM publications, including the 8th edition of the Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription.


He is involved with teaching since 11 years and serves as faculty for the University of Chester, United Kingdom and the SNDT University in Mumbai, India.

He is also an avid sportsperson, and has completed several half marathons and a full marathon as well.  Recently, he cycled non-stop from Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai, covering a distance of 329 km.





Kinita is a Qualified Sports Nutritionist. She has done MSc in Foods and Nutrition (from  M. S. University (Vadodara, India). She has done Diploma in Sports Nutrition (Merit) Awarded by Ascentis Awarding Organisation (Oxford College (London) Jan 2011). She is also Certified Specialist in Sports Nutrition (International Sports Science Association Jan 2011)

She had worked with various health clubs & Corporates.

She is member of the Sub Committee at Common Wealth Games, Delhi 2010 Also consultant Sports Nutritionist of the National Cricket Academy, Bangalore. She is consulting Nutritionist of Delhi Public School, Gwalior.

She is also lecturer at SNDT University for Post Graduate Course, lecturer at SVT College of Home Science and lecturer at Pune University for Post Graduate Course.
